Salary Packaging Benefit Changes

Salary Packaging is changing. New arrangements for meal entertainment and accommodation venue hire benefits will soon apply. A new combined annual limit with net value of $2,549.97 becomes effective on 1 April 2016. This means you can package up to $98.07 per fortnight for meals entertainment benefits. This annual cap will also be reportable. So the equivalent grossed up value (up to $5,000) will appear on your Payment Summary. This amount is means tested. New FBT Entertainment Cap Approved

FBT Exempt Employees Entertainment Benefit Cap
Both houses of parliament approved yesterday the new combined annual Cap for Meal Entertainment (e.g. restaurants) and Entertainment Facility Leasing expense (venue hire) of about $2,500 in actual entertainment expenditure. eziway, along with a number of peak industry bodies, made a number of submissions to Government to increase the proposed cap, as we recognise how important the uncapped exempt benefits were heavily relied on by the Non-Profit organizations for salary equalization strategies. A $5,000 grossed up value will apply for the combined benefit of meal entertainment and entertainment facility leasing expense effective 1st of April 2016.

What does this mean for eziway customers?

eziway is very disappointed that Government has overlooked a transition period and has chosen to legislate an effective commencement date for the 1st of April, 2016.
